My thoughts on the new Doctor
I’m going to give my thoughts on the new doctor… because everyone is dying to hear my opinion, right? Okay, so for those unaware, the new Doctor has been confirmed, and will be played by Jodie Whittaker, making his the first female ro ever play the doctor… unless you somehow count the parody written by […]

I’ve watched all 130 episodes of Ed Edd n Eddy and Big Picture Show… Here are my thoughts!
“Why on earth did you decide to give up any life you had and watched an old childrens show from 10 years ago?!” I hear nobody ask… because there’s nobody reading this… Well, it started with Facebook (of all places), and I saw that come channels were doing streams of Ed Edd n Eddy episodes, so […]

My thoughts on the announced show hosts and new logo.
So Robot Wars has updated it’s profile picture on Facebook to what I’m going to assume is the new logo. I’m going to be honest, I actually think this looks cooler than the original logo! I thought the new Battlebots logo from their reboot was disappointingly bland compared to their old one, but if anything […]

BattleBots is coming back for a second season on ABC
Source: BattleBots is coming back for a second season on ABC This is good news! Although I really hope they will do something about the cluster bots this time around, because in my opinion, the 1st reboot series (video of episode 1 below), was almost if not ruined by the clusterbots! Robot Wars is (Sort of) making a return!!!
I just found out that Roaming Robots, who are a Robot Combat organisation, similar to Robot Wars or Battlebots, but not as big, or on TV...
Anyway, it turns out that they had just bought the rights for Robot Wars! They are going to replace their entire brand to Robot Wars, and even plan on recreating the arena and bringing back the house robots!
However, they are no plans for a TV show, but hopefully, as the post author had said, this is a step in the right direction.
I hope this means we can see the return of legends, like Panic Attack (Who had actually made a comeback at Robots Live a few months ago, so there's hope there for an RW return), Chaos 2, Roadblock, Mortis, Razer (When though the team split and decided to never have anything to do with RW again, but that was BBC RW), and Plunderbird!
I'm sure robots like Behemoth, Storm and Kronic the Wedgehog, who we used to see in the old days will be there, seeing how they've yet to retire.
I'm extremely exited for this, this is a chance for a positive future for Robot Combat in general! What do you guys think.

Retro Diary - 12/8/12 - My birthday week
Monday 6th August 2012
I saw the Dark Knight Rises today, and it was brilliant, it's my favourite film this year, and seeing how brilliant all the other films I've seen that came out this year, it's saying a lot!I've downloaded the Batman Arkham Asylum Demo today, but at first, it didn't work, but I manually installed a patch for it, and it worked just fine, and I loved the demo, I am without a doubt getting the full game as soon as I can, preferably the Game of The Year Edition!
Tuesday 7th August 2012
I've finished Stranglehold today, and what an epic game it was! As I keep telling you...Wednesday 8th August 2012
I went to a Basketball summer training camp with my friend, Jamie, or "Midfield Maestro", as he likes to call himself. I'm mentioning this because he's staying with me for 2 nights after that, when we got home, the first thing we did was play FIFA 12 on the PC, the second thing we did... was play more FIFA 12! Then we played PES 2012 on PC. Then FIFA. Then Fronte Del Basket 2, Then FIFA 12, then NBA 2k12, which he somehow beat me at, his big ego never shuts up about it, then FIFA 12, then we watched some videos, and finally, some FIFA 12! Finally, we watched some Fawlty Towers.Thursday 9th August 2012
Both me and Jamie watched some Spongebob Squarepants, just thought I'd tell you that.We played FIFA 12 all morning, then one of my old friends came up, it's been years since I've seen him, and he hasn't changed one bit! For this purposes of the blog, and since I don't have permission to use his real name, I'm going to call him "Rydo".
The three of us played FIFA 12 and PES 2012 on PC for most of the day, then my cousins came along, and we played a bunch of games, I forgot the order we played them and we played some of them at the same time, a couple played one, while the rest played another, here's what we played:
- Metropolis Street Racer [DC]
- Mashed: Fully Loaded [Xbox]
- The Sims 3 [PC]
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 [GC]
- FIFA 12 [PS2 & PC]
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 [PS2 & PC]
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater [N-Gage]
My mum got my birthday cake, she showed it to me, at first, I expected, since I was 18, it would be about some rubbish about beer/alcohol, even though I'll never drink, I hate the idea. However, it turned out it was a cake modelled into a PS1! Brilliant!

Friday 10th August 2012
It's my birthday!!!!!!
My mum said she would give me my "Main" present early, it was a 160GB Ipod Classic! I always wanted one of them! What has it got to do with this blog? Who cares!I got an Atari Flashback 3, what that is, click here.
I got a whole bunch of games and Sims 3 expansion packs, which are:
- TimeShift [PC]
- Grand Theft Auto IV [PC/Games for Windows]
- Dead Rising 2 [PC/Games for Windows]
- Strong Bad's Cool game for Attractive People [PC]
- Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures [PC]
- Sims 3 World Adventures [PC]
- Sims 3 Late Night [PC]
- Sims 3 Generations [PC]
I've been playing them pretty much all day.
Sunday 12th August 2012
Instead of going to grans this week, since she was at England, along with my cousin, Giancarlo and his family, to watch the closing Olympic ceremony, my cousins came to our house for a barbecue, a perfect opportunity to play some games with Steven, and anyone else who might want to play games. We played some Atari 2600/Flashback 3 games first, Starting with Combat, then Sprint Master, and finally Maze Craze.
Then we played WWE All Stars for the PS2, we played a few games.
Then we played a 10 minute game of Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64, then unfortunately Steven had to go, he wasn't there for long...
Before he left, I gave him a lend of both Stanglehold and Blood Stone 007, since they were DRM-Free (Well, DRM in the anti-used game sense.) and I completed them, he said he had always wanted to play Blood Stone, but was waiting for a Steam sale (All digital gamers are the same!), so I gave him a retail copy to borrow!
Next week we'll be back at grans, instead of doing PS2 week, I'm brining a mystery console, I haven't decided on what it is yet, so as of now, even I don't know what it is!

Retro Diary - 25/3/12 - "You've landed on the challenge squa- Oh, it froze..."
Dear Diary,
I've had a rather quiet week this week, apart from the obvious, nothing has really happened.
On Sunday, it was 3DO week, however, I ran across a few problems, on the main TV, despite it working before has all of a sudden stopped showing it in colour, it was in black and white, so I had to get another TV to get it showing properly.
The second problem I cam across was that a few games all of a sudden stopped working properly, at least in some parts, if you select certain cars in Need for Speed, the game wouldn't load, and in Twisted, some of the mini games crashed the game. I have no idea why these problems were occurring, the discs weren't any more scratched than before, and I've never really been "abusing" my 3DO, despite how frustrated I was at it for not showing properly on the main TV, maybe my 3DO is suffering from CD-rot...
Luckily, I got need for speed working properly again, it turned out the disc was just a little dirty, I cleaned it, and it worked a charm once again. Twisted, however, didn't, the mini games that crashed the game before still done so, but less often, I checked the disc, and there were a few scratched, but not enough nor were they deep enough to cause reading errors, so that was strange, every other game works perfectly, and Twisted worked perfect before, strange, isn't it?
So I can only conclude that it was the CD with the problem, even though it didn't make sense, it was the strongest lead I had, so I'm getting myself an official copy (the one I had was a burnt copy) so we can play it properly, if it still doesn't work, then I will really worry...
Anyway, the week started off with my little brother playing Need for Speed, unfortunately, the problem I was having before ruined it.
Then me and my cousin, Steven, played Twisted, then we encountered that error...
So we tried Corpse Killer to see if it worked, and it did, no problems, we had a laugh playing it because it was so bad, as usual.
Then me, Steven, my other cousin; Giancarlo and my brother; Riccardo all played a 4-player game of Twisted, hoping that the errors have been fixed, and we all went quite far before the game crashed, the mini games that were supposed to crash it, worked a few times during the game, unfortunately, my bad luck caught up to me, and crashed the game.
All in all, apart from the errors, we had an alright time. I swear, if these problems are going to reoccur every week, I'm going to stop the whole week thing.
Throughout the week, my two little brothers have been watching my Sam & Max cartoon series DVDs.
The surprising thing is: I never persuaded them to do so, they decided to try the show out, out of their own free will, and they love it, so much so that I'm always hear them talk about it and they always recite lines and moments from it, and they even downloaded trials of the games on Xbox Live, and sometimes ask me to play the full version on the PC, as I have all of the game.
I just thought I'd mention it here, as it's interesting, and more importantly, proves that the show, despite many people bring surprised it got a PG rating and that was aired on Fox Kids, it's still a perfectly good show for kids to watch. That alone in my opinion makes this show one of my favourites, it has all the humour that people my age would love, but kids can also watch it and find parts funny as well.
Next week is Saturn week, I would hope that I wouldn't have any problems, but then if I do, I let my guard down, and my luck would ruin everything, it's done that many times before.

Retro Diary - 15/1/12 - "BEEEEEAAASSSSTTTTTT... Robots!"
Dear Diary, sorry I'm late with posting this week, you'll find out why later on.
On Tuesday, My sister came to my house to play my Mega Drive again, she was playing the one I found in grans the week before, like I said, it works better than my other Mega Drive, because it doesn't need the power cord to be plugged in at a certain angle in order to play it.
You guys wont believe this, but she didn't even know how to spin dash in the game! I can understand if she's totally new to the game, but she played it when it came out all those years ago with our older cousins, so I would've though sometime then she would've learned, but apparently not. Oh well, she knows now.
She got to Oil Ocean Act 2 before she got a game over. She had 6 lives and 3 continues and managed to lose them all at that zone. *tuts*
She decided to play through it all again, she's dedicated I'll give her that.
She reached Metropolis Zone Act 2 this time.
Then she decided to play through it all again!
She reached Oil Ocean Act 2, the exact same spot - the boss - before her 3rd game over.
Later on in the day, she came back for a 4th try, this time she reached Green Hill Zone Act 2 before deciding to stop playing.
She later returned though for a 5th play though, well technically 4th, but whatever.
She reached a record of 15 lives! She reached Mystic Cave Zone Act 1 before she had to leave for the final time.
I think I can safely say that after all of that, the Mega Drive found in the closet/cupboard is in full working condition!
On Wednesday, me and my cousin, Steven, had another Robot Wars session on Garry Mod.
After a few battles, we decided to try and build new robots, but neither of us had an idea that worked, so we gave up. I swear Steven's idea of connecting an office chair to a sentry gun with a 100ft pole was going somewhere...
On Thursday, my sister returned to play some more Mega Drive... while I was at college! She said she reached Living Fortress zone when I was away.
When I was there, she reached Oil Ocean zone Act 1.
Her goal it seamed from that point was to get as many lives as possible.
On her second attempt, or at least the 2nd I've seen, she reached Aquatic zone Act 1 with 15 lives before she had to leave.
On Friday, College ended early, but I didn't have my mobile phone, so I couldn't tell my mum that so she couldn't pick me up, so since I had a couple of hours to kill, I went over to my friends house for a few hours.
We played a could of El Classico on FIFA 12, if you don't know what "El Classico" is, it's the Spanish old firm, Barcelona vs. Real Madrid.
Unfortunately, my friend had taken all of Real Madrid's good players and put them on Barcelona, so I didn't stand a chance.
So I went Bayern Munich (Spelling) and he went Milan, and you won't believe this, but I actually scored not 1, but 2 goals against him! He did equalise in the second half and scored a 3rd goal, but I got him back with a 3rd goal from my team, then he scored again, then the matched ended, it was surprisingly close!
We had a rematch, and this time, he scored a goal against me earlier on, and then... no one scored since, and the match ended 1-0.
This guy has been collecting FIFA games for years, so he's most likely an expert at them by now, I'm just a new comer, and I surprisingly came close on both of our balanced matches!
We then watched Aladdin on VHS, it's my first time watching it believe it or not, and I really enjoyed it!
Afterwards, we decided to have another game of FIFA 12 again, but then I had to go.
On Saturday, my Sam & Max DVD boxset finally arrived, after 2 months of waiting! I watched it all at once, it was worth the wait! Brilliant show!
Steven came up to my house, we played a few games in my room, we first tried out Hi-Octane, and it was kind of fun, but it was drag, because the game's circuits have too many laps, seriously, some even go up to 12 laps! They;re not short either, they're pretty long! So it kind of drags on after a while, but for a game that only took 8 weeks to build, it's pretty fun!
We might've played wipE'out 3: Special Edition, but neither of us are sure about that.
Then we played WWF War Zone for the Nintendo 64, like ECW Hardcore Revolution, which we played on the Dreamcast and which is also made by Akklaim, the game is so bad, it's awesome! So we had a couple of matches of that.
We were going to hook up our laptops, he brought his over, to play Garrys Mod on multiplayer using LAN, but we didn't have time, he had to go.
In summary, here are the games we played:
On Sunday it was PS1 week, my cousin was playing a few games of Vib Ribbon, we were about to pop in Tekken to play it, but it wouldn't load that or any other games since, my PS1 just died on me... and that was why I never posted my Retro Dairy on Sunday
Luckily though, I guess, me and Steven brought our laptops to keep us occupied, we wanted to try our Robot Arena 2 multiplayer, if know what that is, it's a Robot Combat game released only in America, however, alot of people in the UK own it due to the popularity of Robot Wars, in fact I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if most of the copies the game sold are in the UK now!
Anyway, we found out that although you need the disc to boot it up, you can take it out after it's loaded, and it would still function perfectly, so we ran the game on both of our laptops, connected each others laptops using a cable to play LAN multiplayer and surprisingly, it worked! So we had a few games, then we left.
In between games, we chatted in the built-in chat system in the robot selection screen, and we were quoting videos from KSIOlajideBT's videos, but adapting them to Robot Combat, the most notable of these was parodying his "Beast" videos, where he talks about good but unknown football players in FIFA: "Shut up and welcome to BEAST! Where we talk about BEEEEEAAASSSSTTTTTT... Robots!"
On closer inspection, and recall, it turns out that I made a mistake, you see, I have 2 PSones, and I was bringing the other one every other week because the one I brought broke, the whole time it was broken, so all of my grieving and being a little mad and stressed all went to vein, well, at least there's not much to be sad about.
I cleaned the lens anyway, just to see if I can bring it back to life, popped in Tekken 3, and it actually kind of worked again, I say kind of, it loaded the intro and menus just fine, but couldn't load the actual game. At least I'm making progress, eh?
In summary, here are the games we played:
So, next week is N64 week, the return of Slapper action in 2012!

I haven't been online since Christmas day, well I have, but I've been too busy playing the Sam & Max games to write this, but I decided to take a little break from them to write this. (it was hard to pull myself away from playing them, they're just so awesome!)
I decided originally to forget about writing this, but then I remembered the reason I started this series in the first place, so I can look back and if I forgot exactly what happened in my memories, I can read these entries to remind me exactly what happened.
Anyway, enough blabbering on, let's get started!
Dear Diary,
Despite the tragedy that happened in my family slightly earlier this year, I really enjoyed Christmas this year, I got almost everything I wanted, I say everything I mean I didn't get my Sam & Max DVD boxset and the copy I got of Season 2 was a faulty copy, stupid conmen! Also, the copy I got of wipEout 3 Special edition what the 2 games package which came with that and Destruction Derby 2, which I didn't want, I already had Destruction Derby 2, I didn't want it again!
I managed to get it working if I boot it up a certain, obscure way, but I'm planning on getting a legit, UK version of the game plus the Sam & Max DVD box set and a proper copy of wipEout 3: Special Edition from Amazon.
Anyway, here's what else I got:
Speaking of, I've been hearing that the PC version of Hit the Road doesn't work on XP and Vista PCs, and that you still need DOSbox for them, but I tried the game out without DOS box, and it work perfectly fine, I don't see what everyone's problem is.
Overall, like I said, despite what happened in November, I had a great Christmas!
The same day, we went down the grans for our Christmas dinner, I brought my CD32 and PS2 along, since the main TV was apparently going to be busy, we had to use the other TV in the sitting room, which has dodgy colours, but I suppose it was better than nothing. So me and Steven played a few games of Motorstorm on it, and I showed him Rise of the Robots and how bad it was.
Then my brother and his brother (I still need permission to use their real names) came in with the Xbox 360 and used the main TV, great! Interesting thing though, they were about to play FIFA 12 on it, so I decided to show them that we didn't need their fancy next gen multimedia system, and stuck in FIFA 12 on the PS2 and played that.
I don't remember much else, I do remember having a game of Motorstorm with Giancarlo, but then he had to leave, we left not long after.
The next day, we went there again, but this time, I didn't bring a console, my brother brought his PS3, we had 3 games, before we started, he said to me "I'll show you how to really play FIFA!", and I ended up beating him in 2 of the 3 games, yeah, it seams my way of playing FIFA is the superior way!
After that, he had a few games with out cousins, then we were thinking of doing a local-ish tournament, so far, we only have 6 people in it, we need 8! We're going to work something out though.
Wow, I thought this diary would be longer, oh well.

R.I.P. Steve Merill

I don't usually do articles about anything that isn't retro gaming, but that doesn't mean I'm restricted to it, sure, the picture at the top is my old collection of retro games consoles, (it's extended since) the blog title refers to anything retro, be it games, movies, TV shows, or even Books, Comics or Magazines.
This article is dedicated to the Robot Wars legend Steve Merill, the captain of the Sir Chromalot team, sure, they never made it pass the heats in the competition, but like the Plunderbird and Diotior teams, were they entertaining, they were funny to watch, and they were great sportsmen, I even got goosebumps the whole time watching both them and Plunderbird have a segment, and a battle together in Robot Wars Extreme.
According to some of my friends from within the FMRW (Fan Made Robot Wars) community, he was also great behind the scenes, he always had time for his fans, had he of been working on his own robot, helping other teams or even on the phone to his loved ones, he'd always made time for the fans, he'd give them autographs and have a laugh!
Unfortunately, Steve Merill died of Cancer a few months back, and I had no idea about this, and I was shocked, and of course, sad, I loved watching him in Robot Wars, he never failed to put a smile on my face, and I'm not just saying this because he's passed away, I really mean it!
If you have no idea who he is and what he's done, I pity you, it's never too late to find out click here: http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sir_Chromalot
R.I.P. Steve Merill, you were a legend! You will be missed!
