Retro Pick-Ups – Not PSP this time!

I’ve got a few deals in the past week that I’ve been forgetting to post here, so here’s a round-up of what I got this week. Clockwise starting from bottom left, I got Tony Hawk’s Project 8 for the Xbox, because why not? I was wanting to see what the Xbox version of the game […] ...To receive more of these posts, you should follow my new blog, over at wordpress, the link is: http://ift.tt/1iKv2Ih

Retro Diary – 10/02/2014 – All about the PS2!

Dear Diary, Monday 3rd February 2014 I was at college, during break in the morning, my lecturer noticed my ZX Spectrum bag, and we started talking about the ZX Spectrum, he showed my his ZX Spectrum Emulator on his Iphone, and even showed me some games he bought for that emulator, and he showed me […] To receive more of these posts, you should follow my new blog, over at wordpress, the link is: http://ift.tt/M4x06Z

Retro Diary - 31/12/12 - Last Retro Diary of the Year

I've been thinking of redoing the blog for a while, I kind of missed it, to be honest.

I will do them again, however, I won't be as active as before, 2013 is going to be a busy year for me, for starters, College is starting to take up a lot of my free time, having to do all sorts of assessments and test at home, (At least I can't say I have too much free time, I won't be looked down on as much, but not sure if that's a good or bad things, though.), and I'm working on my new game: Rossies 3D, which will be made using the Unity engine, so it will be easier (but it's just as genuine) to make games, so I hope I won't give up on this one...

Anyway, next year, you might be lucky to get more than 1 post in a month, but hey, being not very active is better than being inactive, right?

So without further delay, let's begin:

To sum up what happened between my last post and now, PC games, lots and lots of PC games! Most notably the Tony hawk games, which all have insane modding communities, making the PC a great platform for the Tony Hawk games.

I'll tell youse what I got for Christmas:

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland [PC]
The Orange Box [PC]
Train Simulator 2013 [PC]
Skateboard Tycoon 2003 [PC]
Snowboards Tycoon [PC]
Sonic 4: Episode 1 & 2 [PCDL]
Sonic Adventure 2 + Battle [PCDL]
StarFox Adventures [GC]
The Legend of Zelda: Ocerina of Time [N64]
Incredible Crisis [PS1]

A new PS2
and a bunch of Blu-Rays

May seem like a lot, but most of them didn't cost that much, so that kind of balances it out.

Train Simulator 2013 was easily the best game I got, it's brilliant, although it didn't come with any Scottish trains or routes, I had to pay about £50 worth of DLC to get them, and this them on a sale with 50% off, so usually, it would cost me about £100! The game is still fun though, speeding trains, derailing them, making them crash into things, it's good fun!

Sonic 4 is pretty good, but I can't help but think it's just a shoddy attempt to recreate the original games using 3D graphics, Generations is far better! in my opinion at least.

Sonic Adventure 2... It doesn't work, if Sega are going to be putting out 10+ year old games, they could at least make them work, they are lucky I didn't buy myself and that a Steam sale was on...

I only got Orange Box for the unlikely event that Valve goes bankrupt and you can't download their games anymore...

I've yet to try out the console games, but I look forward to once I get around to it.

As for the PS2, the one I had broke, it stopped reading discs, so I had to get a new one.

Did you know that the PS2 went through another redesign? Yeah, it did! They even made a new box for it, take a look:

I love how it's the same blue theme as the PS Vita and new PS3 and PSP boxes! It's clear Sony haven't forgotten about their good old PS2!

The PS2 itself went through a redesign as well, now the left of it is entirely piano black, and caught dust and fingerprints after 5 minutes! The only problems I had were that the power and eject buttons are now very small and hard to reach, and that it only came with an EU plug, it didn't even come with a converter! Luckily, I had one myself:

Looks alright, doesn't it? It works great, so all is good!

That same day, we were going to our grans for a Christmas dinner, so I brought the new PS2 along, seems only fitting, right?

We played a bit of Timesplitters, and that was about it... We spend most of the time chatting and watching Doctor Who, hopefully, we can have a proper week next year...

Well, that's all I have to say, see youse.... in my 2012 year review!

Retro Diary - 19/8/12

Monday 13th August 2012

Batman Arkham Asylum arrived today! It's just as awesome as the demo made it out to be! I've been playing that all day.

Tuesday 14th August 2012

Quoted from the Retro Pick-Ups video posted that day: I was spending the day with my friend, as a sort of birthday get together, as his birthday was coming up, while we were out, we went to CEX, which a store that people bring old games, CDs and DVDs and they sell them, my cousin, Giancarlo, goes in there a lot, and says it's a great store, so I went in, and disappointingly, it was mostly PS3 and Xbox 360 games, I managed to find a section that had 6th gen console and PC games, so I browsed around that part for over half an hour.

I got 007 Nightfire on both PC and Gamecube, because I heard that the PC version was cut-down from the console versions, but I wanted to try it anyway, it was only 75p anyway, so why not? The Gamecube version was £1.50.

I also got Reservoir Dogs on the PC for £1.50, I'm a big fan of the film, I have it on DVD, have it's soundtrack ripped to my PC (Turns out my dad used to have it, well, we found it at our old house.), and I always wanted to play the game, now was my chance.

Lastly, I got RC Revenge Pro on the PS2, just because I can!

Nightfire on the Gamecube was brilliant, it got every right, it's not as good as Goldeneye, but it's definitely up there! The PC version, however, is actually kind of rubbish, they've changed the game completely! The only thing that remained is the story, and even then, many scenes have changed, everything else is completely different.

Reservoir Dogs was badly optimised and was an extremely shoddy console port, but it's good fun in my opinion, so I'll probably be playing it to the very end.

I've still to play RC Revenge Pro, I want to get and complete the original RC Revenge on the PS1 first

Wednesday 15th August 2012

I tried out a demo of Need for Speed Underground 2 on the PC, owning it on the PS2 and Xbox wasn't enough for me!

Well in all honestly, I loved the game, but didn't like how it ran slow and looked rather blurry, after realising there was a PC version, it shouldn't have surprised, need for speed originated on the PC and 3DO and every game in the series is available on PC.

It was much better than the console versions in my opinion, it runs much faster, you can turn all the blurring effects off! However, it doesn't support widescreen resolution, but the beauty of PC gaming is the modding community, and low and behold, there exist patches (user created), that make it support whatever resolution you want, so I installed one, and it looks great!

Thursday 16th August 2012

I got a pack of 3 games today, all Codemasters racing games, all with creative titles, they are DiRT, GRID and FUEL!

The awesome things about DiRT and GRID are that when it comes to selecting your profile, you get to choose your nationally, and you can choose to be Scottish! Finally, games that acknowledges us a separate country! The games are a lot of fun as well, I had a bit of trouble running DiRT at first, but once I was sorted, I was off!

Saturday 18th August 2012

I got a Need for Speed Collector's Pack today, which contained Need for Speed Underground 1 & 2 and Most Wanted, I've only played the Underground games, I loved them both on the consoles, and it's only made better on the PC because of the higher framerate and the ability to turn off those annoying blur effects, the only downsides to them is that don't support widescreen resolutions, so I get thick black bars on each side, but you get used to it.

Saturday 19th August 2012

It was PS1 week this week, and Steven couldn't come, and Giancarlo had to move all of his stuff to his new flat, and only had time to play a game for 5 minutes. Basically, like every other week recently, everyone's either not present or don;t have the time.

I played a bit of Jinx and Formula 1, then me and Giancarlo had a few games of Tekken 3, then he played a game of Vib Ribbon.

After that, he had to leave, is it me or are we not playing games nearly as often as we did when I started this?

I'll see next week if we get time to play next week's consoles (I'm leaving it to my cousins), to see if the time and effort put into packing them and setting them up is worth it.

Retro Pick-ups: Stuff I got from CEX.

I was spending the day with my friend, as a sort of birthday get together, as his birthday was coming up, while we were out, we went to CEX, which a store that people bring old games, CDs and DVDs and they sell them, my cousin, Giancarlo, goes in there a lot, and says it's a great store, so I went in, and disappointingly, it was mostly PS3 and Xbox 360 games, I managed to find a section that had 6th gen console and PC games, so I browsed around that part for over half an hour.

The only thing that remained is the story, actually, I'm going to do a new series, where I play through 2 versions of the same game at pretty much the same time, I complete 1 level on one platform, I do the same level on the other, and compare my experiences and I'll explain the differences

Reservoir Dogs was badly optimised and was an extremely shoddy console port, but it's good fun in my opinion, so I'll probably be playing it to the very end.

I've still to play RC Revenge Pro, I want to get and complete the original RC Revenge on the PS1 first.

Anyway here are photos:

Retro Diary - 12/8/12 - My birthday week

Monday 6th August 2012

I saw the Dark Knight Rises today, and it was brilliant, it's my favourite film this year, and seeing how brilliant all the other films I've seen that came out this year, it's saying a lot!

I've downloaded the Batman Arkham Asylum Demo today, but at first, it didn't work, but I manually installed a patch for it, and it worked just fine, and I loved the demo, I am without a doubt getting the full game as soon as I can, preferably the Game of The Year Edition!

Tuesday 7th August 2012

I've finished Stranglehold today, and what an epic game it was! As I keep telling you...

Wednesday 8th August 2012

I went to a Basketball summer training camp with my friend, Jamie, or "Midfield Maestro", as he likes to call himself. I'm mentioning this because he's staying with me for 2 nights after that, when we got home, the first thing we did was play FIFA 12 on the PC, the second thing we did... was play more FIFA 12! Then we played PES 2012 on PC. Then FIFA. Then Fronte Del Basket 2, Then FIFA 12, then NBA 2k12, which he somehow beat me at, his big ego never shuts up about it, then FIFA 12, then we watched some videos, and finally, some FIFA 12! Finally, we watched some Fawlty Towers.

Thursday 9th August 2012

Both me and Jamie watched some Spongebob Squarepants, just thought I'd tell you that.

We played FIFA 12 all morning, then one of my old friends came up, it's been years since I've seen him, and he hasn't changed one bit! For this purposes of the blog, and since I don't have permission to use his real name, I'm going to call him "Rydo".

The three of us played FIFA 12 and PES 2012 on PC for most of the day, then my cousins came along, and we played a bunch of games, I forgot the order we played them and we played some of them at the same time, a couple played one, while the rest played another, here's what we played:
  • Metropolis Street Racer [DC]
  • Mashed: Fully Loaded [Xbox]
  • The Sims 3 [PC]
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 [GC]
  • FIFA 12 [PS2 & PC]
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 [PS2 & PC]
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater [N-Gage]
I got a lot of Birthday money today! As well as that, my cousin, Giancarlo, gave me a couple of games he got from CEX, I got The Broken Sword Trilogy on PC and From Russia with Love for PS2.

My mum got my birthday cake, she showed it to me, at first, I expected, since I was 18, it would be about some rubbish about beer/alcohol, even though I'll never drink, I hate the idea. However, it turned out it was a cake modelled into a PS1! Brilliant!

Friday 10th August 2012

It's my birthday!!!!!!

My mum said she would give me my "Main" present early, it was a 160GB Ipod Classic! I always wanted one of them! What has it got to do with this blog? Who cares!

I got an Atari Flashback 3, what that is, click here.

I got a whole bunch of games and Sims 3 expansion packs, which are:
  • TimeShift [PC]
  • Grand Theft Auto IV [PC/Games for Windows]
  • Dead Rising 2 [PC/Games for Windows]
  • Strong Bad's Cool game for Attractive People [PC]
  • Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures [PC]
  • Sims 3 World Adventures [PC]
  • Sims 3 Late Night [PC]
  • Sims 3 Generations [PC]

I've been playing them pretty much all day.

Sunday 12th August 2012

Instead of going to grans this week, since she was at England, along with my cousin, Giancarlo and his family, to watch the closing Olympic ceremony, my cousins came to our house for a barbecue, a perfect opportunity to play some games with Steven, and anyone else who might want to play games.

We played some Atari 2600/Flashback 3 games first, Starting with Combat, then Sprint Master, and finally Maze Craze.

Then we played WWE All Stars for the PS2, we played a few games.

Then we played a 10 minute game of Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64, then unfortunately Steven had to go, he wasn't there for long...

Before he left, I gave him a lend of both Stanglehold and Blood Stone 007, since they were DRM-Free (Well, DRM in the anti-used game sense.) and I completed them, he said he had always wanted to play Blood Stone, but was waiting for a Steam sale (All digital gamers are the same!), so I gave him a retail copy to borrow!

Next week we'll be back at grans, instead of doing PS2 week, I'm brining a mystery console, I haven't decided on what it is yet, so as of now, even I don't know what it is!

Retro Diary - 17/6/12

Monday 11th June 2012

Day 5 with no proper PC, and I can tell you, it's boring as f*ck, I have no idea how I managed without it before, well, probably because I didn't have games that needed a PC that powerful, but the fact is that I do, and I want more games that need it, this sucks!

I ordered the MDickie collection on DVD today, you'll get the link to do so on his website if you want to as well, it's only £10, and you get basically everything he's ever created, everything on his website on a DVD, including his old DOS games, offline versions of his flash games! It may be pointless as everything on his site is free now, I'm preparing for if the site ever goes down and loses everything, if that ever happens, I can still play his games using his DVD compilation.

So I decided to take my mind off it by playing a bit of Gran Turismo 3, FIFA 12 and Toy Story 3, all on the PS2, mostly GT3.

I realised there's an unlockable feature on FIFA 12 on PS2, which I didn't see on the PC version, and that is funny SFX, which replaces, all of the game's sound effects to funny ones, for example, when I shoot, instead of hearing a kick, I hear a rocket! Or if I hit the post or the bar, I hear a bell noise, the same for when someone headers the ball, only it's a different bell sound! It's fun to have on, even if it gets old fast.

Throughout the whole day, for some reason, I wanted to play a racing simulator game, like Gran Turismo, or Sega GT. So I decided to play the one I've had for months, but never played, Gran Turismo 3! So I've been playing that, and enjoying it, even if it's frustrating as hell to get the licences!

One of the games I wanted for for PC that only my broken PC could run, was Toy Story 3, after playing the Wii version and really enjoying it. In excitement in getting my PC fixed and playing, I've been playing Toy Story 3 for the PS2... so yeah...

Tuesday 12th June 2012

Day 6 without a proper PC, and I'm seriously on the brink of insanity! I want to Play games like Sims 3, left 4 Dead 2 and Toy Story 3 so bad, but I'm not able to!

So, out of extreme boredom, I decided to play one of the few games the laptop I'm using can play, Peggle Extreme! I decided to give this a shot, as I never got the chance with my now-broken PC, and I really enjoyed it, I will be getting the full game if I get my PC fixed, because you can get both that and it's nights expansion in retail form from Amazon!

I also played Codename: Gordon, and completed it! Now I only have to finish Half Life 2 Episode 1 & 2, and Half Life: Blueshift, and Half Life: Decay... Well, I'm one step closer to completing all of the Half Life games out so far.

Wednesday 13th June 2012

Day 7, a full week without my PC, and I am officially losing it, seriously, I hope writing this will keep me sane, if not, then god help us...

My Amazon basket a.k.a, the list of PC games I want, is filling up, and I realised that some items would be quickly going out of stock, one of them only having 1 left, no big deal, right? No, Except that, that item didn't have other sellers, if I place that order for that one copy, I can forget about getting that game at all, so I thought since my laptop could probably run it anyway, I ordered it thankfully, it dispatched, so I got the last copy.

The game I'm talking about is Peggle, the full game, I also ordered Peggle Nights, the sequel, and I also ordered Doom: Collectors Edition, which is all 3 of the original doom games made playable on modern Windows Operating Systems, plus, you also get a demo of Doom 3, chances are, my laptop could at least run the original Doom games, so I got that as well.

Throughout the day, out of total boredom, I decided to check out a few DOS shareware games, such as Doom and Duke Nukem 3D.

Thursday 14th June 2012

Day 8 without my PC, and I swear to god, I'm going to go insane, I mean insane asylum kind of insane, I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but I did everything with that PC, played games, make stuff, do browsing, my laptop does an awful job in comparison on all 3, especially games, I can hardly play anything on this toaster! I can't take my mind off it because pretty much everything reminds me of it!

I have just about given hope on my PC, I am very confident that ASUS will not repair it, and all the PC repair shops will end up charging us more than we have, so I'm f*cked, £1150 gone right down the drain, it's nothing more than a paperweight now, and there's f*ck all I can do about it!

Friday 15th June 2012

Day 9 without my PC, and usually at this point, I'd be totally insane and wrecking the house, but I'm not, and I'll tell you why.

2 things, first of all, my copies of Peggle and Peggle Nights, as well as Doom Collector's Edition have arrived, so I won't be as bored.

Secondly, but by no mean least, when I was bored, "knowing" I can't play games like FIFA 12, PES 2012, NBA 2k12, Left 4 Dead etc., I looked at my game boxes to make sure of this, and I found out that, theoretically, this laptop actually can play them all on low settings! It'll do until my PC gets fixed, if it ever gets fixed, so at least I can still play FIFA Euro 2012 in the mean time. The most surprising thing is, this laptop is 5 years old, and can still play some fairly new games, and when that was new, that couldn't play any games released at the same time at high settings.

If my PC gets fixed, and that can play todays games on high settings, I'm looking at, at least 4 or 5 years until that becomes obsolete! So yeah, I'm all cheered up knowing that.

I played a bit of Revenge of Shinobi for the Mega Drive, and I got farther than before because I accidentally did the unlimited shrunkens cheat, which also gave me more lives, I managed to reach Round 2 Level 1, in other words, level 4, before dying, it may not sound far, but this game is very hard, I'm lucky to reach the end of level 2!

Saturday 16th June 2012

I went to the cinema today to see Men in Black 3, I really enjoyed the film, although the 3D effects were mediocre at best, which wouldn't usually be a problem, but it costed us £50 to get in! What a rip-off! Despite that, like I said, I enjoyed the film.

I tried out FIFA 12 on my laptop, and minimum requirements my ar*e! My laptop could barely run the game on arena, where there's only 1 player and 1 goalkeeper, and half a pitch, if even that! On an actual match, it was just unplayable! The game literally run at like 2 frames a second, if even that, and my laptop surpasses all the minimum requirements by quite a bit, I'd hate to try it on a laptop that just only meets the game's "requirements"!

My sister also came to my room to play a bit of Sonic 1 on the Mega Drive, but only for like 1 level, until she went out.

Sunday 17th June 2012

It was Wii week at grans today, unfortunetly, Giancarlo forgot to bring his Wii, fortunately, however, I brought mine, just in case this would happen.

I played a bit of No More Heroes first, and it make me think why I stopped playing in the first place, I really enjoyed it, maybe I'll dig it up, because I still have No More Heroes 2 sealed, unopened, from a couple of years ago, and I want to open that up, and play it, but I want to beat the first game first.

Then me, Giancarlo, his sister, and Steven played a good few matches of Super Smash Bros. brawl.

Then we played Wario Ware Smooth moves, and we had a blast!

Then we played a few Gamecube games, first being Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects! Me and Steven played a match or two.

Then we played a couple of matches of Beyblade V-Force: Super Tournament Battle.

Then we played a few races of Mario kart Double Dash.

Then we went back to playing Wii games, by playing Super Mario Galaxy, it didn't take long for us to get bored, though.

Then we played Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010, the game ironically wasn't as good as the Wii sports golf game, and PGA tour was dedicated, we played a few for a few holes, though. One thing we did notice was that the graphics were so good, our gran thought it was a real match on TV!

Finally, we played Sonic Heroes on the Gamecube.

After we went home,my mum got my uncle to photocopy something, and she would go over to collect it half an hour later, I wanted to go as well, so I did, and I showed Steven the Peggle games, and showed him the 'Weird Al' Yankovic song: "It's all about the Pentiums" and he showed me the Plants vs. Zombies game, and he said there's an browser version to try out, so I'm trying that out right now.

So next week is Mega Drive week, we're going back to the start of the cycle, time for some blast processing!

Retro Diary - 10/6/12 - "PC Week"

Monday 4th June 2012

Today, we went to grans again because we had leftovers from the party beforehand, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to bring a console over, I decided to not tell anyone until after my cousins have had their dinner.

...and that console turned out to be *drum roll*... The Nintendo Gamecube!

First, Me and Giancarlo and Riccardo played a few matches of Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, played a few two player match, taking turns, as the game's only 2 player.

Next, we played a few matches of Beyblade V-Force: Super Tournament Battle, Steven later came in, and had a few matches as well.

Then me and Steven played a game of Horse on Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, the horse name as h0ba0a008, and I won! 12-5 to me!

Finally, we played a race or two of Mario Kart Double Dash, then we left.

Steven's family took me back as my family left earlier on, while I was at my house, I lent Steven my Sam & Max games and BTTF the game, as they are DRM free, so you can install them on any PC, and that he wanted to try the games out for a while.

Tuesday 5th June 2012

At about 12:00 up until 1:30 in the morning, me and Steven were playing Co-Op online on Portal 2 on PC for the first time! It was so much fun! We played through 2 chapters before getting bored, and that it was getting late... after that, I of course went to sleep.

When I woke up after that, shortly after, my brother, Riccardo, challenged me to a game or two of FIFA 12, but this time, we'd be playing on the PC, we first had a game of Euro 2012, my brother went Scotland, and I went Bulgaria, the teams were chosen at random by the way.

For a while at the start of the match, I thought I was Scotland, as I always play them and are used to controlling them, this almost lead to scoring an own goal, but then I figured out I was actually Bulgaria, and the owning commenced, I don't remember the score, but I remember I won!

Then we played a few matches of the original FIFA 12, for all the matches we played, I went Bray Wanderers, and Riccardo went as Athletico Madrid.

Then first match, which we didn't finish, I was winning 3-1, until Riccardo forced a rematch, in the next match, Riccardo won, I think the score was 8-4. The last match, I think I won 5-1.

Then I played a bit of Need for Speed World.

Sunday 10th June 2012

On Wednesday, my PC broke down, it couldn't even boot up, so I'm using my laptop, and to save time, nothing happened between then and now.

Originally, it was going to be Wii week, but Giancarlo went to a music festival, and Wii week is nothing without him, so we done a different week, and go back to Wii week when he returns.

So we decided to do a one-week-only "PC week", but it went to waste, because we didn't play anything we spent the whole day trying to connect me and Steven's laptops together, which is odd, they worked perfectly fine before, but it just won't work now, and I swear Microsoft are trying their best to make this task as hard and complicated as humanly possible!

So we left without playing anything.

I hope next week will be better than this, but I doubt it, seeing how my PC, which is worth £1000, is dead...

Retro Diary - 27/5/12 - "We're going to play MSR in a whole new time zone!"

Dear Diary,

I decided that instead of writing the entire thing on the Sunday, I'd write it as it happens, so some of the stuff may be in present tense, probably not, but just a warning...

Friday 25th March 2012

For a while, I've always wanted to try out FIFA Manager 12, because I already had FIFA 12 and UEFA Euro 2012 (Both physical copies!), and it seemed as though if I had manager, that would be the PC collection complete!

So after looking a bit on Origin, I found there was a downloadable demo available, as well as Sims 3 and pets, so I downloaded them, and gave them a go.

I surprisingly enjoyed FIFA Manager, I previously tried the Football Manager 2012 demo, and I found that boring, this was pretty fun, though, even if it's pretty glitchy...

I really enjoyed Sims 3 and pets as well, the Sims 3 "Teaser", as they call it basically give you a minute trial of an area and you move to the next, you get to go to 3 areas, the pets demo is basically just the create part, nothing else. Although now I'm considering getting both games, but I can't, as I'm saving up to pre-order FIFA 13 and PES 2013 on both PC and PS2...

Saturday 26th May 2012

My sister came into my room while she was visiting, and she asked if she wanted to play Tony Hawk's Underground for the PS2, so I let her, and she was playing for about 10-15 minutes, even though she wasn't doing any tricks, and was hardly jumping, she seemed to be enjoying it for a while.

Sunday 27th March 2012

This morning, since I recently got a new ISP (O2, we used to have AOL), I thought I'd try FIFA 12 and PES 2012 online, before hand, it just didn't work at all, I was lucky to play half a match on either, but with the new ISP, I played several full matches without a problem!

I won my match on FIFA 4-2, we were both Barcelona. On PES 2012, however, the people there are complete ninjas! The first match, I lost 8-2! Not only that, my 2 goals, were my only shots in the whole game, the other guy had, I kid you not, 22 shots! Another Barcelona, Chelsea moment... The second match I played was even worse, I lost 13-2! I would've rage quit, but if I did, the game would restrict my account, it's nice to know that system works...

It was PS3 week at grans today, we only played FIFA Street, me and my brother, played 2 matches of "Last man standing", which, if you score, the player that scored gets sent off, and player who send their entire team off first wins, he won both times.

The me and my cousin, Giancarlo, played a 5-a-side match, which I won 6-2 I think. Then me and my other cousin, Steven, had a game, I don't remember the result for that.

After that, I left.

Steven came up to our house not long afterwards, and we played a bunch of games!

We decided to try a challenge, and attempt to play all of the consoles that night, we just called it: The Console Challenge, it's good enough, plus it has alliteration.

We started off by playing FIFA 12, in celebration that FIFA 13 was coming to PS2, widescreen and in 60Hz! I went as Barcelona, and he went as Athletico Madrid. We enjoyed it, despite the game being completely different, but not for the better, and the game kept slowing down, we played a match, I won, but I don't remember by how much.

We then played PES 2012 for the PS2, in celebration of PES 2013 coming to PS2, I went Barcelona again and I think Steven went as Manchester City ,more of the same here, except the game had no widescreen mode, not that it's that important.

Then we played Timsplitters, and trying to figure out what to do! If you don't know what we mean, the game's objectives are very simple, literally, every objective is take something, bring it back, me and Steven have an in-joke of pretending that we don't understand the objective! We couldn't pass the level we were on, because we had no idea where the item in question was and there were too many guys pumping lead into us.

Then we went up a step, and played Timsplitters 2! We were on Neo Tokyo, where you had to follow someone without her noticing you, we finally passed it!

Then we played Vib Ribbon on the PS1, I challenged him to complete a 'Weird' Al Yankovic song on it, as I mentioned to him it was almost impossible, he couldn't do it!

Then we played the revolutionary Rise of the Robots for the Amiga CD32! We played a couple of matches, He won the first, I won the second.

Then we played Sonic Adventure 2, we played a Kart Race, I don't remember my position, but Steven came last. Then we played a couple of action stages, I won both, which was enough to show him the levels we never played in before.

Then we played Metropolis Street Racer, we set the time to the console default (midnight 1st Jan 1998), but we set the time zone to a random one to mix things up, and it landed on GMT +9, then Steven said "...and now, we're going to play MSR in a whole new time zone!" Brilliant! At that moment, I knew I was goign to use that for this diary's title.

We played a couple of races, both of which I won, the first one, which was in Tokyo, by quite a margin, 20 seconds between my finish, and Steven's, the second one, which was in London, was close, but it was still clear who won.

Then we played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 on the Xbox, so we could get our Horse of the week, we played in the airport level, where it all started! The "horse", was wVjlYSfRR4! I won it despite my handicap! 11-5 to me!

Then we played Mashed: Fully Loaded on the Xbox, we played f*ck knows how many matches, we got addicted for a short while! We had force ourselves out to play something else!

Then we moved onto the Saturn to play Sega Rally Championship we had a race, unfortunately, I won the race...

Then we had a game of FIFA 97, also on the Saturn, and it was awful, but in the awesome kind of way! We soon realised why the Sega Worldwide Soccer games got so much praise back in the day and still to this day has a fan base... this was the alternative!

Then we played Forsaken on the N64, the game is fun on single player, not so much on multiplayer, pretty disappointing, especially since the N64 is the system for multiplayer games!

Then we played 007 Goldeneye, on, what else, the Sega Saturn! Oh wait... We played a game of licensed to kill slappers only, as always, but we had turbo mode on, which, as you might have guessed, speeds up the players, and it was a lot of fun, I expected it to be frustrating, because you might not be able to hit the players, that was the case, but it was still fun! Then, for the first time in a long time, we had a proper gun match, with turbo mode on, but still, and we had an absolute blast! We should do this more often!

Finally, because all we needed was the Gamecube to have completed all the main consoles I have, we played Beyblade V-Force: Super Tournament Battle, once I finally explained to Steven how to launch the Beyblade in the game, once that was over and done with, we played a proper match, and we enjoyed it, well, at least I did.

We were about to play Sonic Heroes on the Gamecube, but Steven had to leave unfortunately, so we weren't able to, obviously.

Before we left, I showed him my recently acquired key chain Beyblade and launched it, and asked him "Doesn't this bring back memories?", he said "Aye, it does.", just thought I'd tell you that.

Here's what we played:
In the order we played them:
  • FIFA 12 [PS2]
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 [PS2]
  • Timesplitters [PS2]
  • Timesplitters 2 [PS2]
  • Vib Ribbon [PS1]
  • Rise of the Robots [CD32]
  • Sonic Adventure 2 [DC]
  • Metropolis Street Racer [DC]
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 [Xbox]
  • Mashed: Fully Loaded [Xbox]
  • Sega Rally Championship [SS]
  • FIFA 97 [SS]
  • Forsaken [N64]
  • 007 Goldeneye [N64]
  • Beyblade V-Force: Super Tournament Battle [GC]

It was a fun week overall, next Sunday, we're having party for my brother's communion at my house, and all of my cousins are going, it's going to be a frantic week!

The week afterwards will be Wii week, because it's been far too long since we played a game of Wario Ware Smooth Moves!

Retro Diary - 13/5/12 - "SlllooooowwDoooowwwnnnnnn!!!!"

Dear Diary,

I've had a more exiting week than usual, although that's not saying much.

Monday 7th May 2012

For some reason, we were going to grans again, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to take a console.

I decided to keep it a surprise until my cousins, Steven and Giancarlo, came into the sitting room, where we usually play the games.

The console turned out to be... The Sega Saturn!

Sadly, I can't remember what games we played and in what order, so I'll give you what I can remember, We Played:
    In no order:
  • Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition
  • Sega Rally Championship
  • Sega Touring Car Championship
  • Virtua Fighter 2(.1)

Our games of Sega Rally and Daytona USA were pretty much the same as they always are.

I remember while me and Steven were playing Sega Touring Car Championship, we kept saying "SlllooooowwDoooowwwnnnnnn!!!!" and "5 Frrrraaaammmmmmeeesss aaa ssssseeeeccconnnnnddd!!!", because the game kept slowing down!

I remember Virtua Fighter 2.1 most fondly, me and Giancarlo were playing it, we discovered they had an option called "Slow Mode", so we enabled that to see what it was like.

It turns out it was just an underwater stage, it slows down the game for realism, as actions done in in water are usually slower than in air, that much is kind of obvious, so I guess they didn't lie...

We had a lot of fun with it, though, while we were playing it, were talking about imagining movies done underwater, like Back to the future underwater, with a submarine "Delorian", and Die Hard done underwater!

Overall, it was a lot of fun!

Saturday 12th May 2012

At long last, I have Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase on PS1 again!

I've been wanting that game for literally years now. Why? You may ask, well I used to have it back in the day, it was pretty much the last out of the nostalgic PS1 games I had, I have just about every other game I had from my childhood.
After playing it, I realised it had almost no resemblance to the movie, it seemed more like a quick buck game, after all, it was based off of a direct-to-video film for starters.

After getting used to the controls, however, I found it was actually a very enjoyable game, the controls are solid (although they f*ck you over from time to time), the game is actually challenging even playing it now, the levels are pretty cool, and the music and sound effects are great and memorable, for years I had some of it's tracks stuck in my head without realising where it came from!

I almost feel I shouldn't be enjoying it as much as I am, like I said, it seems as if they quickly put the game together to make a quick buck, as guess you could call it, a guilty pleasure? I seem to have a lot of games like that recently, maybe I should make a top 10 list...

Sunday 13th May 2012

It was Gamecube week this week, unfortunately, Steven couldn't be there, due an accident he had with his lip.

Unfortunately also, Giancarlo didn't know it was Gamecube week, so he didn't bring his games, he asked what games I had, I mentioned Mario Kart Double Dash and Marvel Nemesis, and then he said "Say no more, we're sorted!".

For a while, I was playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 with my brother, we also played Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure for a short while, too.

The me and Giancarlo played a bit of Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.

Then we played a bit of Mario Kart: Double Dash, I brought the strategy guide (yes, I actually have it.), to for a joke, say we have the full experience, the funny thing is, it actually came in handy! Sort of. Giancarlo wasn't sure how you boosted in the game, so we looked it up in the strategy guide, and it had the info we needed! I never worked for me, but it worked for Giancarlo a few times, so I know the guide was right.

Then we played a little bit more of Marvel Nemesis...

Then we tried out Beyblade V-Force: Super Tournament Battle, it took a while before Giancarlo figured out how to launch the Beyblade, after that, eh, it was alright.

Then we played some more Marvel Nemesis... While we were playing it, we were talking about those companies like Capcom and EA, who are just in it for the money, I mentioned since it was recently released on PC I thought I might try out Street Fighter X Tekken, and he surprised when I mentioned it, it turns out he hadn't heard about that, odd, I thought he'd be the first to know about it.

Then we tried out WWE Day of Reckoning, the controls were easy enough for him to learn, so we had a one on one hardcore match, which I won.

...and finally, we finished off with another game or two of Marvel Nemesis!

In short (tl;dr), here's what we played:
In the order we first played them:
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
  • Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure
  • Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash
  • Beyblade V-Force: Super Tournament Battle
  • WWE Day of Reckoning

My auntie had to drop me off since my mum left ages before, before I even had to chance to play the Gamecube with Gianni. It turns out he was in the same car, so me, him, and the other cousin who was in the car, were talking Michel Jackson and Weird Al Yankovic songs!

So yeah, despite the major drawbacks, we still had fun, or at least I had, next week is Xbox 360 week, I hope Steven will be better by then, because he's the one that's supposed to bring it, if he isn't, which I reckon is unlikely, then we'll either move the PS3 week then back to 360 week, or until Steven is well enough, I'll select random consoles to bring until Steven is well enough.

He'll probably be better by then, but just in case...

Retro Diary - 12/2/12 - "Let's NOT do this!"

Dear Diary,

Not much has happened this week, apart from the obvious.

This kind kind of off topic to my usual stuff, as it's not only about a newer platform, but about something I'm making rather than playing.

I've officially started production on my upcoming project, I'm getting someone (someone I've known for a couple of years, I trust him.) to do the 3D models for the game, while I model the environments for the game, once he's done, and he says they shouldn't take too long to make, I'll start development on the actual game.

I'm going to try my best to make this a great game, although I'm trying not to go overkill, because this will be my first proper game, released on Steam and Xbox Live as well, I want to give off a good first impression.

I will be making a weekly development blog, but not on here, I'll be doing it on the Gamerstorm website, when it's back up, until it does, you should check out the blog, all updates are posted on that as well, be sure to check the now and again.

On Saturday, me and my sister decided to watch Spiderman and Spiderman 2.1, which is an extended version of Spiderman 2, as you might've guessed.

We never finished the second film, we're going to finish it off another time...

It was Gamecube week at gran's this week, the Gamecube is probably the only console all of us (me and my cousin, Giancarlo and Steven) have and have games, controllers, etc. for, so every Gamecube week, we have a vast amount of games to choose from!

We- or rather I first played a few games on the Game Boy Player, Super Mario Deluxe and WWF Betrayal, not much worth of note happened in either game.

Then we played F-Zero GX, originally, it was just going to be me and Giancarlo playing it, but Steven joined in the last minute, we played had a few races, all of which I came last in...

Then we popped in Mario Kart: Double Dash and again had a couple of races, both of which to my recollection where I came second, the second race I was about to win, but got distracted literally at the finish line, and Steven I think managed to overtake me and won.

Then we played the game that wouldn't make Gamecube week, Gamecube Week without playing, and that game is Mario party 6, we wanted to just make it 5 turns, as our last game, which was 20 turns, lasted about 2 hours! However, the minimum you can have was 10 turns, so we went with that, we played a 4-player game; Me, Giancarlo, Steven, and my 8-year old brother. It lasted a long, long time, but not as long as it usually does, thankfully. I ended up last again, I see a trend coming on here...

Giancarlo had to leave soon after, so it was just me and Steven, so naturally, we popped in a Tony Hawk related game, and that game this week was Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, the word was paab77ag8g!

We had a game before this one, but the game glitched out, and I had to hard reset it, not even the reset button worked! Thankfully, my it didn't ruin my Gamecube!

In our proper match, it was surprisingly close, in the end, I got 9 letters, and he got all 10, so he lost. Steven is the horse of the week, a paab77ag8g! It's 6-1 to me!

We left after that epic match!

Next week is Xbox week, hopefully, we'll play the last of the obscure non-Tony-Hawk type of Tony-Hawk games; Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer! As I have it on Xbox, of course, not without having a game or two of 007: Nightfire first...

Retro Diary - 29/1/12 - "There's never been robot opponents this lethal!"

Dear Dairy, I've had a pretty busy week this week, this week was mostly Sega-orientated.

On Monday, 23rd January 2012, my cousin, Steven came up to our house again, and as usual, we played a bunch of old games.

We first played Mashed: Fully Loaded on the Xbox, I won 1 race, he won 2, somehow, and the CPU won a game. If you read my blog regularly, you'll probably know that Fully Loaded is almost exactly the same as the original, because of this, during the countdown, we say, in tune with the countdown; "This-Game's-The-Same!".

Then we had game of Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction on PS2, it was a 6-man annihilator, I won it.

He brought his laptop along with him, so we had a game of TF2 ware on Team Fortress 2, I have no many games we had, tonnes, we were addicted! The game has alot of players, most of them almost impossible to top in a game, but somehow, I won a round!

Then we had a race of Sega Rally 2 for the Dreamcast, which I won.

We then had a game of the Go Kart mini game on Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast, I was 2st, he was 6th, or should I say last.

After that, I showed him a trailer for Rise of the Robots, it had fake claims all over it, it said stuff like Take on droids in order of their technical sophistications in a cinematic 3D arena, with full 360 degree freedom of movement!, Rise of the Robots features fighting moves conceived by a martial arts expert and VR inspired backgrounds designed by an architect!, Opponents actually learn from their mistakes and read your moves! Making strategic decisions down to the last microsecond! There's never been robot opponents this lethal!, Awesome five round bouts are more than kick and punch! Multiple rounds build drama and excitement as gamers sweat every swain, every move! and last, but definitely not least; Rise of the Robots redefines the fighting genre with a futuristic motive proven in focus groups!.

If you have ever heard of Rise of the Robots, you'd know they're all lies. Click here to watch it.

We played the game itself on Amiga CD32 afterwards, we had played 3 matches, all of which were with the Sentry Droid (a.k.a. "Rook"), He won the first match, I win the second match, and he won the third.

Lastly, we played Mario Kart Double Dash for the Gamecube. we had 2 races, one in Luigi Circuit -I was 1st in that one, he was 6th- and one in Peach Beach -I was 2nd in that race, he was 5th-.

Here's the list of the games we played:
In the order we played them:
  • Mashed: Fully Loaded [Xbox]
  • Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction [PS2]
  • Team Fortress 2 [PC-Steam]
  • Sega Rally 2 [DC]
  • Sonic Adventure 2 [DC]
  • Rise of the Robots [CD32]
  • Mario Kart Double Dash [GCN]

On Friday, 27th January 2012, we went to our grans, because it was my late dad's birthday, and to celibate, we were to set off Chinese lanterns.

I was just playing Urbz on the GBA, with the aid of a Strategy Guide, of course, while waiting for our cousins to arrive.

After we set off the Chinese lanterns, we went back in our grans, and it turns out my uncle had brought his Master System, we set that up, and played some games on it, and he let me keep it, if you want read the full story about it if you haven't already, click here.

Here's the list of the games we played:
In the order we played them:
  • Urbz: Sims in the City [GBA]
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [SMS]
  • After Burner [SMS]
  • Sonic the Hedgehog [SMS]

On Saturday, 18th January 2012, our cousins came up for dinner, me and Steven as usual, came up to my room to play a bunch of games

Of course, by tradition, we started off playing Rise of the Robots on the Amiga CD32, and like always we had playing it, or rather laughing at it, I wasn't able to keep track of how many matched we had, though.

We then played the sequel, Resurrection: Rise 2 for the Sega Saturn, this game fixed all of the problems the original had, and it actually a pretty good game, in fact, there was a part of the narrative in the manual that took the mickey out of the original game, I already mentioned this, but since it was so long ago, I'm mentioning it again, it did so by saying, and I quote: The next generation of robots now had actual intelligence....

Then we had a couple of games of Sega GT on the Sega Dreamcast, we played a race in the normal, oval course, which he surprisingly won, then we had a race at a city level, which is more advanced, and I won that race, by quite a bit, despite his 3 second head start.

We then played Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast, we had 2 races at the go kart mini game, one in the intermediate course, one at the expert course. Then we had a few games of the action stages, most of the at the shooting one, he surprisingly won most of them despite almost no experience with the game, and we had a game of the running game, which I won.

Then we played Metropolis Street Racer for the Dreamcast, we had a couple of races, and it turns out the game has widescreen support! Perfect for my new TV!

We then played Mashed: Fully Loaded on the Xbox, and as always, he had a blast! Quite a few, actually!

Lastly, we played Sega Touring Car Championship for the Sega Saturn, I've been hearing the game was awful on the D-pad, I've mostly been playing it with the analogue, but I only had 1 3D controller, so I gave Steven it, and decided to use the D-pad, at first, I didn't like it, but I got used to it, and started to enjoy the game anyway, it's not so bad, frankly, I have no idea what all those game reviewers were b*tching about.

Sega Touring Car Championship was one of those games you could casually play while talking to your friends, usually the guy you're playing, and I love those types of games, because we'd still be getting our doses of gaming goodness, and also have good conversations with other people, you know, socialising, the thing they say gaming takes away from people...

After that, Steven had to leave, aw! I wanted to play him at Mario Kart Double Dash!

Here's the list of the games we played:
In the order we played them:
  • Rise of the Robots [CD32]
  • Resurrection: Rise 2 [SS]
  • Sega GT [DC]
  • Sonic Adventure 2 [DC]
  • Metropolis Street Racer [DC]
  • Mashed: Fully Loaded [Xbox]
  • Sega Touring Car Championship [SS]

Today, at grans, it was Dreamcast week, good timing, I've been in a Dreamcast mood lately!

While I was waiting for my cousins to finish their lunch, I was playing Urbz on the GBA for a bit.

I don't remember much from this despite being recent, so not everything here happened in the right order.

The first game we played was Mortal Kombat Gold with my cousin, Giancarlo, it was hilarious to play, and not in the it's-so-bad-it's-good kind of hilarious! After a good few games

Then we played Metropolis Street Racer, me and Steven had a couple of races, and then I had a game with Gianni.

Then we played Sonic Adventure 2, we had a couple of Go-Kart races, one with Gianni, and the rest with Steven.

We then had a game of Chu Chu Rocket, we would've had a 4-player game, but Gianni had to leave, so it was just the 2 of us, we had a few games, then I became bored.

We put Sonic Adventure 2 back in, and we had a few go kart races again, then we decided to play a few of the shooting action stages, a couple in the Egyptian level, and a few at the highway level, I won the former battles, and most of the latter, he managed to win a couple of them, then we played a few action stages, and boy, were are matches then tense and epic! We had 3 matches as I recall, all of them at Sky Rail and he somehow won 2 of them:

One of them was because I had fallen off at the worst moment, and whenever you reach a checkpoint, even if your opponent never reaches it, they'll go to that check point if they die, so to my recall, I reached the third checkpoint, Steven didn't, he was around the second checkpoint, and he died, and went to the third checkpoint, so it was a race to see who reached the goal, and then I died, and he caught up to where I was and reached the goal.

The second game we had was so, so close! It was virtually neck and neck, constantly switching back and forth being first, both dying at the same time and respawning the same spots and stuff, then when we were at the end, and we were virtually at the goal the same time, it looked like I inched it... but then the game gave the victory to Steven...

The third match we had wasn't as tense as the first 2 games, but it was still epic, at least for me! I was watching my ring count, using time stop as often as I could, made sure not to fall off, and I finally reached the goal first! It was close, but I made it!

Whoo! That was epic! I think Sonic Adventure 2 is my favourite 2-player game of all time now!

Then we had a game of Sega Rally 2, we had a few races, not much to say about that.

and Finally we played Metropolis Street Racer, we had a load of races, then we had to leave!

I think I can safely say that was one of the best weeks we've had since we started this whole week thing!

In short, here're the games we played:
In the order I think we played them: (All DC unless stated otherwise)
  • Urbz: Sims in the city [GBA]
  • Mortal Kombat Gold
  • Metropolis Street Racer
  • Sonic Adventure 2
  • Chu Chu Rocket
  • Sega Rally 2

I've just noticed, we didn't have our traditional 3-4-player game of Chu Chu Rocket or even played Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, Dreamcast week wasn't complete, but it was still fun!

Next week is PS2 week, it's a good chance to compare the 2 consoles, see which one's better, Steven thinks the Dreamcast is better, Gianni, at least the last time I asked, thinks the PS2's better, and as much as I love both, I think the Dreamcast is better, so this will be good time to see by how much we prefer them, or maybe we'll change our minds... nah, doubt it!

Retro Diary - 28/11/11 - "Are you ready to press a button? Then let's go!!"

Dear Diary,

Sorry I was late, I didn't have any time to write this weeks entry yesterday, I had to get up early the next day, personal reason, I'd rather not mention.

I had a fairly busy week this week, but I need to write notes down from now on, because I forgot the order these events happened.

Throughout the week, I have been revisiting old games that I had in my 'collection' which I completed ages ago, but was tempted to do again, Timesplitters 2, the Tony Hawk's Underground, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland.

I've still to play the latter of the list as I'm in the middle of Underground 2, I and if you must know, I'm playing the Gamecube version, I've never played that one, I completed the first Underground on PS2, and after playing the Xbox version before... wow, I have to say, the PS2 version looks kind of rubbish, as for the Gamecube version, I've never played that, so I can't comment on it.

I was playing Timesplitters 2 on PS2, but while I was on that, I went to my cousins house, and we played through the Xbox version it there, so I didn't see the point in completing it on PS2 if I've more-a-less seen everything. Alright, I lie, we only went through a couple of levels, but you get the idea.

While I was at my cousin's house, we played some games, mostly on N64.

I brought a few games with me in case we got bored, just as well we did I guess, but we had a problem with the N64, it wasn't able to save or load data from cartridges, so when I put in Ridge Racer 64, it said the memory had gone corrupt, and the data in Perfect Dark was gone too, but when I went back home, and tried them on my N64, the data was still there.

Anyway, that didn't stop us from playing a race or two on Ridge Racer 64, although I was moody the whole way through.

First, we played Tony Hawks Skateboarding on N64, my cousin told me he never played the original Tony Hawk game, I was surprised, he loves Pro Skater 3 and Underground, but never played the first game!? Alright, fair enough, I was like that at first, but eventually I got the whole collection up to Tony Hawks Proving Ground on PS2.

Anyway, we played a few games on Graffiti, and I more-a-less annihilated him, with scored like 12-4!

Then, we had a few games on Hockey on Monster Truck Madness 64, and he got me back, he kept beating me with scores like 6-0! I think I an safely say, I've lost my touch...

Then we had a game of Ridge Racer 64 and tried to play Perfect Dark, but like I said before, the N64 had problems reading the data.

Then we played Timesplitters 2, and like I said, we played through a couple of levels until I had to leave to go back home.
Here are the games I think we played, in the order I think we played them:
  • Tony Hawk's Skateboarding [N64]
  • Monster Truck Madness 64 [N64]
  • Ridge Racer 64 [N64]
  • Perfect Dark* [N64]
  • Timesplitters 2 [Xbox]

Speaking of Perfect Dark, I was also playing games I haven't completed before throughout the week, such as Matrix: Path of Neo [Xbox], Driver 2 [PS1], Burnout [PS2] and Perfect Dark [N64].

Perfect Dark was the only games out of those games I actually completed, I'll go back to the others and complete them eventually, but man did Perfect Dark feel rewarding for one reason, I was given a bonus mission that's mostly about shooting anything that moves! That was alot of fun!

On Sunday, at grans, it was Sega Saturn week, we restarted due a confusion, I'd rather not mention why.

I played a match with my little brothers on Fighters Megamix, of course with a handicap for balance, and they were having an absolute blast, they kept bugging me to play more.

Eventually, I convinced them to try out Sega Rally, they didn't like that too much, racing games, as I've discovered, aren't my little brothers' strong points.

Then they wanted to play the Sonic games I had on the Saturn, so we had a game of Sonic 2 on Sonic Jam, and then we had a couple of races in Sonic R. I actually convinced my uncle to play a game of Sonic Jam with me at Sonic 2, we had fun, although we didn't get far.

Then my cousin arrived, and we had a game of Virtua Fighter 2, then he wanted to watch the Fifth Element, which was coming up on Channel 5. I wanted to play him in a couple of fights every time an ad break starts for 3 reasons:
  1. I wanted some time spent towards playing the Saturn, we didn't spend much time playing for it.
  2. To make the ad breaks seam shorter.
  3. To give the Saturn rests, to keep the Disc Tray and Cartridge slot working, so then we could load my Virtua Fighter 2 data from the Backup Cart, so we can play Virtua Fighter 2.1!
Believe or not, this did all 3 jobs perfectly, it made the ad breaks seam much shorter, we had a blast every time, and the Saturn for the most part, kept working perfectly.

We even gave ourselves a name by the last ad breaks, we called ourselves the "Rapid Virtua Fighter Response Unit", or the RVFRU, because the second the ad breaks came on, we literally rushed to the TV, turned the Saturn on, switched the channel and played a few games! I think we were overall equal in the record, I won alot of the matched, but he won alot as well.

As for the film itself, It was brilliant! I had no interest to watch it before and never pictured myself actually liking it that much, but wow, were my expectations blown out of the water, (get it?) it had a little of everything I wanted, it had alot of funny moments, it had an all star cast, I loved the environments, it had a great atmosphere to it, and the story, although it seamed a bit ridiculous in my opinion, was very good and kept you watching until the end. I'll definitely be getting myself the DVD soon...

During the film, We recognised the actor that played as Ruby Rhod, or at least he was familiar, but we couldn't figure out where we seen him, then I said "He looks and sounds just like that guy from Rush Hour.", then my cousin looked it up on his smartphone (or 'daft-phone' as I like to call it.), and it turns out I was right, he was played by Chris Tucker, who played James Carter in the Rush Hour Films, so that was where we'd seen him!

In a nutshell, Here's what we played:
In the Order I think we Played Them
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Sega Rally
  • Sonic Jam
  • Sonic R
  • Virtua Fighter 2/2.1

Afterwards, I went to my other cousin's house... again, and we were playing FIFA 11 on the Xbox 360.
My brother was playing with my cousin in a match, I forgot the result of that.
Then we had a match, I lost.
Then he a match with my brother again, and my brother lost, with a 8-1 score no less!
After that, we left, we didn't stay very long.

The following day, we were at my old flat, literally, everyone in the family were there, even close friends and old neighbours were there, again, I don't want to mention why.

Good thing I started to keep notes, there are thing here I never would've remembered!

Me, my brother and my cousins got kind of bored eventually, so I decided to go to my house and bring a console, but by the time I went there and back by bus, as I have no driving license, they would've gone, so my uncle said he'd drive me there and back, I always feel bad when I get other to do stuff for me like this, but he said he didn't mind, so we agreed that I'd do that.

I asked my cousins what console I should bring, at first, they said "Whatever you want." like they didn't care, then I said, or at least I practically said, "I meant should I bring the Saturn, so we can play Virtua Fighter 2.1 again, or bring the Playstation, as that's next on the list.", then they said, "Bring the Dreamcast!", of course, I happily obliged, I brought the Dreamcast.

When I did, one of my older cousins was intrigued by the fact that I bought the Dreamcast, he lived through that era, (Lucky b*stard, I was too young back then!) and remembers it, and so we played a few 4-player games.

Before that, though, we were talking about games in general, and because I was a retro gamer (Who knew?), we were talking mostly about old games, and I found out that my Mega Drive that I have now, I bought from my cousin: Giancarlo, it was actually his Mega Drive originally (The older cousin, not the one who sold me it.), and he gave it to him before selling it to me, however, he apparently had the Mega CD attachment for it, but I didn't find out what happened to it, I would've loved to have that though!

We were talking about a game on the Mega CD called "Night Trap", which was meant to be a cult classic, but is supposed to be one of those games that's so bad, it's good. After that, we were making fun of how enthusiastic the old FMV videos were, they were over the top, saying that they said stuff like we were going on adventures, when in reality, we were just pressing buttons in a sequence, I made fun of them by saying "Are you ready to press buttons? Then let's go!"!

We have this partial in-joke, I say partial, because I'm p*ssed off at the reason that I made it, basically, when someone mentions the Xbox, I, for a joke, assume that they mean the original Xbox,
let's say for argument someone says, "I'm getting Modern Warfare 3 for the Xbox!",
I say "There's an Xbox version!?",
The conversation would probably go on like:
"Yeah, it's on Xbox and PS3."
"Isn't there also an Xbox 360 version?"
"Yeah, that was what I meant."
"Then why did you say you were getting it for the Xbox?"
"Shut Up! You knew what I meant!"

It does p*ss me off how people just call the Xbox 360, just the Xbox, because I have an original Xbox and still play it today, and I'm probably the only one, but nevertheless it still really annoyed me, so I created the in-joke.

Why am I telling you this Dear Diary? Well, because the cousin who lived through the Dreamcast era. (I need to give these guy nicknames, I don't want to give away their real names.) was talking about something for the Xbox 360, I forgot what it was, but he referred the Xbox 360 as just the Xbox, so I done that In-joke on him, he was confused at first, but then my other cousin explained the in-joke, and then for a joke, he called me a "Retro pedant!".

We played a couple of games of Ready 2 Rumble boxing, a Dreamcast night just isn't a Dreamcast night without that! I was facing Giancarlo at first, I won, then I faced my older cousin (nickname pending), and he won, but he was button bashing, even my youngest brother gave him advice by telling him to keep pressing the Y button, and it worked...

Then we played Chu Chu Rocket, 4-player! It was madness, just as I expected!

Then we played WWF Royal Rumble, just to try it, I didn't expect much out of it, but surprisingly, we had an absolute blast playing it, we played a good few matches of that!

Then me and Steve (Nickname from 007 Nightfire a few weeks back) had a game of Tony Hawks Skateboarding, he said he'd be better than me in the Dreamcast version, I didn't believe him, but then he actually beat me in a game of graffiti, I beat him the next game, then we tied, so it was neck and neck, next time we play will be a decider. I have a feeling though he used an N64 emulator to practice the N64 version... Then we played a game of horse, unfortunetly, you couldn't change the name, so we were stuck with 'horse'. So we played a game, and I lost... wow.

Then we played Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, we played a game of Graffiti, that I won, then we had a game of horse, but this time, we could change the name, so what did we do, we both moved the d-pad in random directions and kept tapping A, and then came the final result:

I'll be introducing a new feature, perhaps outside the Retro diary as I think it deserves it's own articles, we call it, the "Insult of the Week".

So, without further adieu, we present to you, the Insult of the week is... DCCJJIBCSS!

Hopefully, I'll document the highlights of the matches we will have and make it a new full feature of the Blog, but the score will be backdated.

So the match winner was... Me! That's 3-0 to me! Steve is the DCCJJIBCSS!

Afterwards we played WWF Royal Rumble again, but this time, we did a Royal Rumble Match match, it never seamed to end! It turns out that we needed to eliminate the computer opponents, (Because this game supported up to 9 wrestlers at the screen at one, which is very impressive considering that the newer Smackdown vs. Raw games can only handle 6! So we did that, and all we had to do, was eliminate each other, but once you were eliminated, you can go right back in by pressing start after you've been eliminated, so theoretically, in a 4-player game, it can be never ending! Just as well it didn't but it take half an hour of our lives!

We then had a game of ECW Hardcore Revolution, because it was so much fun to play, because it's so bad, so yeah, we played 3 matched, we had a good laugh out of it.

After that, I had to go, and then wrote the blog entry.

Note to Self: Take notes from now on.

Retro Diary - 13/11/11 - Prepare to cry, FIFA fanboys...

Dear Diary, and yes, I am going to be adding this every week for authentic-ness, I guess.

On Monday, we sent off the CD32 back to the seller to get it fixed or replaced, because the disc tray wasn't closing properly, we just received an email from the seller saying he got it on Friday and he replaced the top bit of the console and will be sending it back on Monday.

When we played FIFA 11 on PS3 my brother said, for a joke, "Imagine FIFA 13 being released for the Jaguar! Or even the Saturn!", and then I added, "Or, more importantly, the N-Gage!", you know, having a laugh. Why am I telling you this? I don't know, I guess to just create conversation. Besides, it was unusual for my brother to make a joke like that, that's usually the type of joke I would make.

I've been playing both FIFA 12 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 over the week because I had nothing else to do, and also, to decide which is better, because from the little I've played from both, my opinions were more-a-less the same, but I've played enough from both to decide which I think is better.

Believe it or not, contrary to public belief, I actually think Pro Evolution Soccer is better, the controls aren't as stiff as in FIFA, especially when sprinting, and overall just feel better, and the game also has a far better atmosphere than FIFA. Don't get me wrong, FIFA is still very good, but PES is better in my opinion.

As you may already know I went to that charity shop again, and got 6 VHS tapes for £1 and the Matrix Soundtrack for 50p.

What I didn't tell youse, mainly because there was no point, is that on Friday, I got 2 more CDs for £1, the first one is the soundtrack from the Rocky Horror Picture show, I've never seen the film before, but the reason I got the soundtrack is for the Time Warp song! I absolutely love that song! The other CD I got was the Darkness Album "Permission to land", which contained the song "I Believe in a Thing Called Love", which was the song that introduced me to The Darkness, so that was why I bought that.

They both work and I've been listening to both soundtracks.

On Sunday, we went back to Gamecube week.

I played a little bit of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 until my cousins came, nothing else to say about that except I was still playing for a little bit even after my cousins arrived, I was talking about what I said back up there, and it turns out one of them agreed with me and that he always thought the same, and that people only preferred FIFA just because they have more licensed teams, even though PES has the better gameplay. (In our opinion)

We were playing that game throughout the day where we pretended it was a past year, and we act like anything that appeared after that doesn't exist, or that we just haven't heard of it. This week we pretended it was 2004.

After that, we had a few games of Mario Kart Double Dash and when I say a few, I mean, roughly about 20 races, it felt like it.

After that, we played Mario Party 6, which is always a blast to play! Unfortunately, we didn't expect for it to last as long as we did, we set it for 20 turns, big mistake there, the game lasted I think 2-3 hours or something, after we finished, he turned off and were rushed to get back home because it was late. Despite how long it lasted, it was on hell of a game, we had great fun!

In a nutshell, here're the games we played:
As usual, in the order we played them:
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
  • Mario Kart Double Dash
  • Mario Party 6

So yeah, in theory, since it was Xbox 360 last week, due to one of cousins being absent that week, and now it's back to the usual order, it should be PS3 week next week, but my brother, the one with the PS3 wants to save PS3 for after Christmas. So we're skipping to Wii week, and as we all know, the Wii can play Gamecube games...

One last thing, I was getting sick of my little brother always asking me questions about what happened in Pokémon Red, Green, Blue and Yellow, spoiling himself, I know he's young, but he should be playing through the game himself to find out these, it's more rewarding, so I told him to play the game himself, then he said he doesn't have it, so I let him play though my copy of Pokémon Red. At the same time, my younger brother asked me if he could play Mario Bros. Deluxe on my Game Boy Color.

Fancy that, I've got my 6 and 8 year old brothers hooked to Game Boy Color games! I don't know if I should feel happy that they're playing proper games, or guilty, because they should be playing games from their time.

That's it for this weeks entry, again, next week is Wii week see how that turns out.

Retro Diary - 2/10/11 - What!? That's not Random!!

Yes, it's that time again, folks, it's time for another retro diary, the most bland, boring and repetitive blog series on the face of the internet!

This week was the console that started all of this Retro nonsense, the Nintendo 64, and we had alot of fun, surprisingly.

Unfortunately, my cousin forgot to bring his games and controllers, because he thought it was Dreamcast week, I'll explain how the week system works below, so we were stuck with just 2 controllers, kind of ironic when you think about it, because we had 4-controllers on PSone week because of the multi-tap, when we usually have 2. It's just as well I brought in my copies of games he had, just in case he forgot, what I forgot myself, as to bring in Lylat Wars, I was exited about that!

My other cousin gave me back my controller after giving his back a few weeks back, after the mix up of controllers after Gamecube week all of those weeks ago.

Anyway, here are the game we played:
In the order we played them:
  • 1080 Snowboarding
  • Ridge Racer 64
  • Goldeneye
  • Pokémon Stadium
  • Super Smash Bros.

We were playing Ridge Racer 64 the most, I forgotten how much fun it was.

I was humiliated this week, as somehow, I've lost ALL of my games, I guess I wasn't on top form today, because I did awful in the game I thought I was good at.

If you're wondering what the title is all about, well, it's yet another in-joke, where we, for a joke, assume that "random" is it's own stage/song/whatever rather than choosing all of the existing ones randomly, so when random does it job, and randomly chooses a stage/song/whatever, we're like "That's not random!", "You call that random!?", stuff along those lines.

Ever since I've started this series, I've never specified the list of weeks that we're doing, as in, what console do I own, and what order we're doing it weekly, I'm going to rectify this problem, just to clear some heads:
  1. Mega Drive - 1990
  2. Atari Jaguar + CD - 1994/1996 - Optional, as I only have a couple of games and only 1 controller for it.
  3. Sega Saturn - 1995
  4. Sony Playstation - 1995
  5. Nintendo 64 - 1997
  6. Sega Dreamcast - 1999
  7. Sony Playstation 2 - 2000
  8. Microsoft Xbox - 2002
  9. Nintendo Gamecube - 2002
  10. Microsoft Xbox 360 - 2005
  11. Nintendo Wii - 2006

My brothers have been playing Pokémon Stadium all week, and I'm sick of it, the only people to visit my room are my brothers asking to play it, I suppose I should be somewhat happy that SOMEONE has an interest of old games, but these guys are 6 and 7 years old. I suppose I shouldn't be complaining, so I won't be.

One last thing, I've made up a game, pick a year, any year, usually a year associated with the console your playing, pretend it's that year, and if anything released, made, born or happened after the chosen year, you go "What/Who's *Insert object here*?", you can also keep count if you like, me and my cousins play it alot.

Why an I telling you this, no reason really, it's just that if you're that into retro stuff, then you could give it a try with your friends or cousins.

That's it for todays retro diary, I'll see youse here next week when it's Dreamcast week!

Retro Diary - 18/9/11 - "Just because *I* have a working Atari Jaguar CD!"

Despite the impression you might've got from reading the title, it was actually Sega Saturn week! "Well then why the f*ck did you put the Atari Jaguar CD in the title!?" I hear you ask, well, I'll explain later.

First off, though, it's been quite an eventful(ish) week this week, let me tell you everything that happened in chronological order.

I'm going to skip the arrival of my (working) Atari Jaguar CD, as I've already posted an article all about it. My brother, for practically the whole week, was in my room playing Spiderman 2 for the Playstation 2, I saw practically, I mean every minute where he wasn't in school or sleeping, in some nights, he was even playing until midnight, so yeah, he hogged my TV, but I didn't mind, because I enjoyed watching him play it, especially since he comments as he plays, like a let's play, in fact while I eat, I prefer watching him play it than watching something on the internet.

This is sad, I'm going on about how I enjoy watching my brother play a game while I eat, how low I sunk to!?

Anyway, on Thursday, after I came home from College, my Gamecube controller arrived, this is the one that is purple at the front, and clear at the back, and this is an official controller, I never knew Nintendo made these kind of controllers!

I've yet to try it out, I will once I get my old one back from my cousin, and play my brother at a game or two or Marvel Nemesis!

Speaking of college, in college, we play Quake 3 on the PCs at break times, which is cool. Not much to say about that other than, it's alot of fun!

Before I went to my grans today, I went to a car boot sale, and got myself a few still, some good deals, some bad.

but before that, I want to mention that I saw a bunch of Laserdiscs for sale! If you don't know what they are, you could say they were the precursor to DVDs, because they were discs that played videos, but there was one problem with them, THEY WERE MASSIVE! Seriously, I had to stretch out my hand just to hold it from the centre to the edge! The most surprising thing I think, was that this guy had Toy Story for laserdisc, I would've thought that laserdiscs were well dead by the time Toy Story came out, but it turns out I was wrong.

Anyway I got the Simpsons Movie Soundtrack, Special Edition, brand new, sealed, for just £1, and the seller wasn't a con artist, I checked the disc, not a scratch on it!

I also got Theme Park World and a Multi tap for the PS1 for a total of £4, Theme Park World worked just fine, I'm totally addicted to that, but the multi-tap is useless, it doesn't work, I have 2 game that support multi-tap (Klonoa Beach Volleyball and Cubix: Race n' Robots), and it doesn't work on either.

At lastly, I got the Godfather Trilogy boxset on VHS, unfortunately, this doesn't work, in fact, it's the opposite, it almost ruined my VCR! Luckily, we got it fixed in the end, but I am NEVER going to touch that boxset EVER again!

When it was time to go to grans, I brought my Sega Saturn, as it was Sega Saturn week, and just in case, my Game Boy Color, we didn't play that though, it was all about the Saturn.

The game we played:
In the order we played them
  • NiGHTS: Into Dreams...
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Resurrection: Rise 2
  • Sega Rally
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition

The games we enjoyed the most were Fighters Megamix and Virtua Fighter 2. Fighters Megamix, if you don't know, and you probably don't, it's rather obscure, it's basically like a Sega Smash Bros., only it came out before, you can even play as a car from Daytona USA!

I mentioned above that I was going to explain why I mentioned the Atari Jaguar CD in the title, well I will now, when I'm losing in a game again my cousins, for a joke, I go "Just because *I* have a working Atari Jaguar CD!", sorry to dissapoint you Jaguar Fans, that was all I had about the Jaguar CD in this, well, I suppose except we have an in joke where we say "When I grow up, I want to be a *Insert inanimate object here*!" and when we were saying silly stuff like that I said "When I grow up, I want to be an Atari Jaguar CD!"... Well, it was funny at the time.

That's about it for todays Retro Diary, now if you'll excuse me, I have a Theme Park to attend to...

Retro Diary - 4/9/11 - "Hmm, I swear I was driving a car just a moment ago..."

This post was originally going to be an announcement to say that there probably wasn't going to be a Retro Diary for 2 weeks simply because of lack of activity, because my gran is going to Italy for a 2 week holiday, and me and my cousins usually meet up there, so basically, the nest 2 weeks would be quiet.

But then I had a thought, I actually did quite a bit this week, I was playing alot of games with my brother as well as completing and digging up some games of by myself.

I was actually playing alot of games throughout the week with my brother with games on Numerous consoles, here's what we played:
    In no particular order:
  • Rocky Legends [Xbox]
  • Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects [Gamecube]
  • Driv3r [Playstation 2]
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 4 [Playstation 2]
  • FIFA Football 2003 [Playstation 2]
  • Mortal Kombat Armageddon [Playstation 2]
  • Ready 2 Rumble Boxing [Dreamcast]
  • 1080 Snowboarding [Nintendo 64]
  • Driver 2: Back In The Streets [Playstation]
Yeah, I like calling game by their official names.

So anyway, we had a great time playing those, especially Ready 2 Rumble, that's one of the few games in my collection (in fact the only other games I can think of are Marvel Nemesis and Goldeneye) where it doesn't matter whether or not you win or lose, you're just having too much fun to care! Does anyone else have games like that? Games that are always a guaranteed blast to play in multiplayer, and it only works in local multiplayer, you don't get that feeling if you're playing online, can you?

We also played Driv3r alot too, not so much in multiplayer, but rather just taking turns playing singleplayer take a ride, and laughing at the glitches in the game, Driv3r to us is so bad, it's brilliant!

If you're wondering what the title is all about, I'm referring to a glitch and now possible in-joke from Driv3r, where my brother tried to steal some guys car, IN THE GAME (Another in-joke of ours.) of course, then the guy drove off for a bit, then just got out of the car and closed the door, letting my brother drive off, and then he said, pretending that guy was confused "Hmm, I swear I was driving a car just a moment ago...".

I also played alot of games on my own, I've completed Wipeout and Destruction Derby on the Sega Saturn, and let me tell you, it wasn't easy, alot of the time, I wanted to give up, put the disc back in it's case, and back onto the shelves no collect dust, but I kept on coming back to it, and then eventually completing both games, and it felt great, that I actually achieved something, that I can actually move on to the next game, because I'm sick of getting sequels to games I've never completed, if you saw my Backloggery profile, 62% of my games are uncompleted!

So from now own, if any games I want to get the sequel of, I'm going to complete the first/previous game before it and I swear on this... that is of course it's an arcade game, such as Sega Rally or Daytona USA, and therefore cannot technically complete it.

Yeah, this edition of Retro Diary is lame, and since there probably won't be one next week, let hope my typing skills and the way I put things have improved, probably won't, but we'll see.

Retro Arrivals: Nintendo Gamecube Game Boy Player and Lylat Wars [N64]

Before I start, I can't provide pictures right now because I just moved into my sisters room, and the curtains, wall colour (not wallpaper, it was painted), blinds, etc. are still to be changed, plus I've still to finish off everything else, it's in a bit of a state right now.

Anyway, just yesterday my Gamecube Game Boy Player arrived, brilliant! There's not much to talk about, since most of youse already know about it. I got it for a pretty good price, under £20, it came with the software disc (obviously) with all the stuff in the instructions part (manual, Nintendo club points card, etc.) still there and I got a free game: Spiderman 2 on the Game Boy Advance. what do I think of that? Well, I'll be honest, from what I've played, it's total rubbish, especially in comparison to the console versions.

I got another game, but this time, I ordered it, as in it didn't come free with the Game Boy Player, it's very likely that it would.

That game is Lylat Wars on the Nintendo 64, for the Americans and those who just didn't know, it's what they called Star Fox 64 in Europe due to copyright issues.

First thing I found that, is that the box is MASSIVE, Literally, it's over twice the size of a normal N64 box, I'm not joking, I wish I could show you a photo, but you know why. (read above)

The reason it's so big, is obviously because the game with a rumble pack, but that doesn't even take half the box, they've wasted alot of cardboard, which isn't good for the environment.

But is the game any good? I hear youse ask. Well, yes, it's a great game, but to me, what stops it from being awesome is the fact that you can't save your data, you have to play the entire game in one sitting, but there's only a few levels, so I suppose it isn't that big of a blow, maybe I'll do a record a playthrough and upload it to Youtube, because that's the only way I'm comfortable with doing something like this, is that I'll be recording the achievement. I've done it once before, with Firebugs [PS1], I sat there for an hour and a half strait playing the game, but this game I've heard it only take half an hour to complete, so that's a relief, sort of.

I'm expecting some more stuff to arrive in the mail, including something that will get you Rocket Racoon haters pissed off... I just gave it away, didn't I?

Retro Diary - 7/8/11 - "Wii? What's that?"

Yes folks, unfortunately, it's that time of week again, another entry of my "Retro Diary".

This week was "Gamecube Week", I brought the Gamecube, a couple of controllers, and a some games, and my cousins brought their Gamecube games, the Game Boy Player, 2 Wavebird controllers and a screen, not that we used that, we put it all together and called it "The Ultimate Gamecube" and we must've had about 20 games or something including doublers, that's a record, never had that many!

I got a little annoyed at my cousins mentioning and using the 3DS, Iphone and Android Apps and new stuff like that, I knew it wasn't my choice whether or not they use or talk about them, so I decided to pretend it was 2004, and my cousins started to join in, and so when anyone mentioned anything released after 2004, like say for arguments sake, Epic Mickey for the Wii, then one of us would go "Epic Mickey? What's that?".

Yep, when people still used VHSes, when YTMND filled the void until Youtube came along, when the Dreamcast (in Japan), PS2, Gamecube and Xbox were the main consoles and were in War, when the GBA and N-Gage had amazing graphics for handhelds.
I actually caught them a few times mentioning stuff made after 2004, without even them noticing, I was caught once myself.

It got old a little too quickly (no pun intended) and I got a bit bored of it after a while, although I think that was because my mum mentioned that then I still had my horrible High School to go to,I think that's what did it.

Despite this, we still has a great time with the games.
Here's what we played:
In order of when we played them:
  • Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
  • Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (Using the Game Boy Player)
  • Billy Hatcher and Giant Egg
  • Mario Kart Double Dash
  • F-Zero GX
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Super Mario Sunshine (Well, actually, only my little brother played this, but for the sake of completion, It's on the list)
  • Donkey Konga
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • Marvel Nemesis
Funnily enough, I brought my own copy of Marvel Nemises for backup, and it turns out my cousin's copy didn't have the discs, and mines did, I was glad I brought my copy!

Also, it was my birthday weekend (My actual birthday is on Wednesday) so we had the traditional cake and happy birthday song, so my cousins did what I did (for a joke) to them at their birthday, and sing a parody version of it to me, you know it how it goes, I don't feel like mentioning it here, and afterwards they said "Ha! Revenge for what you did to us!", of course, it all was a joke, none it was serious, just in case it wasn't obvious.

As much as I enjoyed it today, and trust me, I had a great time, for some reason, I left there feeling depresseed, like something I've been dreading is coming up, I have no idea why.

As you may already know, I went to my cousins house on Wednesday because my family were at the beach, but I forgot to mention what games we played, I say I forgotten, I left it out on purpose, because the article was meant to be about the Game Boy Color I got, from recall, and I've probably forgot some, here's a list of the games we played that day:
    In no particular order:
  • Medal of Honour: Rising Sun [Xbox]
  • Timesplitters 2 [Xbox]
  • Timesplitters: Future Perfect [Xbox]
  • Super Mario Bros. Deluxe [Game Boy Color]
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes [Gamecube]
  • Mario Kart 64 [Nintendo 64]
  • Quake II [Nintendo 64]
  • Extreme-G 2 [Nintendo 64]
  • Monster Truck Madness 64 [Nintendo 64]
  • Star Wars Episode 1: Racer [Nintendo 64] (Well, we TRIED to play it, but it didn't work for some reason, it's just here for the sake of completion)
I had a brilliant time there, we also watched some Red Dwarf, which was pretty funny, as you'd expect.

Every other day of the week, I was bored out of my skull, so I decided to dig up some games I forgot all about, like Perfect Dark, 007: The World Is Not Enough and others, but they are 2 things (a game and a console) that I've dug up and I fell they're worth talking about.

Rise 2: Resurrection, if you're unfamiliar with this title, I don't blame you, it's pretty obscure game, and was for a reason...

It was the sequel to 1994's Rise of the Robots, which is considered one of the worst fighting games of all time, it's constantly compared to Shaq-Fu, having played it myself, I don't think it's as bad as people put it out to be, but it's still mediocre, it has a very limited move-set, player 1 can only go one character, the controls are very stiff and the A.I. are so stupid that you can b*tch kick them into the corner and win, I'll talk more about that another time.

Well, the sequel, at least on the Sega Saturn (I've heard bad things about the PS and PC versions), fixed all of these problems, they are 18 characters you can play as (approx.) and the move-sets are bigger, the controls are alot better, and most important of all, the A.I. are fixed although the game sacrificed a little bit of the awesome presentation to get the gameplay, but it was smart move if you ask me.

The thing that I love is that I read the story in the instruction manual, and it actually took the mickey out of the first game by saying, and I quote, "The new generation of robots now had actual intelligence", brilliant, eh?

I'll probably do a review of this game sometime, I've been dying to.

The second thing I've been wanting to talk about is the Mega Drive, I've had it in the corner constantly getting based, so I thought one day, I'll play it, so I've been rummaging though my Mega Drive games to find anything I wanted to play, and I found one, Mortal Kombat! So I popped it in, hoping that the Mega Drive, after all the abuse and collecting dust, still worked, and does, and I actually achieved something I struggled to before, I actually BEAT the game, yay!

Like I said, my birthday is on Wednesday, and by coincidence, my sister's moving out the day after, so I guess as a birthday present, I'm moving room to her's, which is over twice the size the size of my current room, which means I can fit in twice as many retro games in it, which I'll need.

Along with the new room, I'll be getting a desk for my computer, which I think will give me a better working atmosphere for when I get back to working on my projects for Gamerstorm.

That's it for this weeks Retro Diary, see youse next week.
